Difficult weather conditions will partly delay today’s mail delivery and slow down the clearing of the backlog caused by the strike around Finland

The challenging weather conditions around Finland will partly delay mail delivery. The situation also affects the clearing of the backlog created during the strike as shipments delayed due to the strike cannot be delivered with today’s mail.

“Roads around Finland are currently icy and very slippery. The bad driving conditions generate a risk that must be taken into account for the safety of fellow travelers and occupational safety. We have to reduce driving speeds, and some delivery routes will be completed later than normal. Unfortunately, some mail may even be undelivered,” explains Jarmo Ainasoja, Head of Exception Management at Posti.

Weather conditions also affect the clearing of the backlog created by the strike

“We have been able to clear the situation briskly. Currently, on average, we have been able to deliver approximately 40% of the items stored by us during the strike to their recipients with new mail. However, regional differences may be significant. We have been able to sort the items mechanically, which has expedited the situation. I’m sorry to say that the poor weather conditions will partly slow down the delivery of such items,” says Ainasoja.

According to the current estimate, most of the letters, magazines and advertisements delayed by the strike can be delivered by Christmas at the latest. A small number of items may be delayed until January. The estimate will become clearer once the mail delivery work progresses further.

“Items stored during the strike will be processed by transport, sorting and delivery in an order that speeds up the delivery of all items delayed by the strike as much as possible. We will do everything within our power to restore normalcy as soon as possible.

Parcels are delivered according to the timetable in accordance with our service level agreement. A minority of the parcels stored due to the strike may be delayed by a few days in some places. Parcels have a tracking code, and you can track the progress of your parcel yourself using the OmaPosti application on your phone or at www.posti.fi.

Christmas mail handling has started and shipments are being delivered

All of Posti’s services are available again, and the handling of Christmas mail has already started. Christmas cards and parcels will be delivered according to the normal timetable.

Posti’s traditional red mailing envelope for sending Christmas cards has been distributed to many homes. You can also get a red mailing envelope free of charge from a Posti service point. Some shops also offer them next to Christmas cards. It is also a good idea to get ready to send international parcels and Christmas greetings. Christmas stamps are also already available for purchase.

You can find information and instructions regarding Christmas deliveries as well as the last Christmas mailing dates at posti.fi/joulu

“Christmas is an important and traditional time to show your friends and family that you are thinking of them. It is also the most important time of the year for us here at Posti. We are glad that around 3,000 seasonal employees are once again working with us in the run-up to Christmas. Altogether, there are roughly 20,000 of us serving our customers during the Christmas season,” says Jarmo Ainasoja.
